Is SpendLens free?
SpendLens is free to download and includes core expense tracking — log unlimited expenses, use 12 default categories, and set 1 budget at no cost. SpendLens Pro is a one-time $6.99 unlock that opens up unlimited budgets, the AI receipt scanner, trends & insights, all 5 widget sizes, custom app icons, CSV/PDF export, and every future update. There are no subscriptions, ever.
Will SpendLens always be a one-time purchase?
Yes. That's the entire point. We will never switch SpendLens to a subscription model, and every existing Pro user keeps Pro forever, including all future updates. New major features may be priced higher for new users, but if you've already bought Pro, you get them at no extra cost.
How do I restore my Pro purchase on a new device?
Open SpendLens → Settings → tap Restore Purchases. As long as you're signed in to the same Apple ID that made the original purchase, Pro is reactivated automatically and free of charge. Apple's App Store handles the verification — we never see your purchase details.
How do I cancel?
There's nothing to cancel. SpendLens is a one-time purchase, not a subscription. If you tipped us through the optional Tip Jar, that's a one-time purchase too. To stop using the app, just delete it from your device.
How do I get a refund?
App Store refunds are handled by Apple, not by us. Visit reportaproblem.apple.com, sign in, find your SpendLens purchase, and request a refund. Apple decides eligibility per their refund policy.
Is my data really private?
Yes — completely. SpendLens stores all data locally on your device. We have no servers, no accounts, and no way to access your data. If you enable iCloud sync, your data syncs through Apple's private CloudKit container, which only you can access. We earn the App Store's "Data Not Collected" privacy label because we genuinely collect nothing. Read the full Privacy Policy.
Why doesn't SpendLens connect to my bank?
By design. Bank-linking apps require you to hand your banking credentials to a third-party data aggregator like Plaid, which sees every transaction across every account. SpendLens is built so we — and nobody else — can see your data. The trade-off is a few seconds of manual entry per expense (or one-tap approval if you're using SMS Auto-Capture in v1.1+).
Where is my data stored?
On your iPhone, in SpendLens's secure app sandbox managed by iOS. If you turn on iCloud sync (Settings → iCloud Sync), an encrypted copy syncs through Apple's private CloudKit container so it appears on your other Apple devices. The Developer cannot access this data, and Apple cannot read its contents either.
How do I export my data?
With SpendLens Pro: Settings → Data → Export CSV or Export PDF. CSV is best for spreadsheets and accountants; PDF is a printable monthly summary report. The export goes through the standard iOS share sheet, so you can email it, save to Files, AirDrop it, or send to any other app.
How do I delete all my data?
Settings → Danger Zone → Delete All Data. You'll be asked to confirm twice. This wipes every expense, category, budget, and receipt from your device. If you have iCloud sync on, the deletion propagates to your other devices automatically. Action cannot be undone, so export first if you want a backup.
How does the receipt scanner work?
Tap the camera icon when adding an expense → point at a receipt → SpendLens uses Apple's Vision framework to read the total amount, merchant name, and date. You then review and confirm before saving. All processing happens entirely on your device — no images are uploaded anywhere. Requires SpendLens Pro.
How do widgets work?
Long-press your iPhone home screen → tap the "+" in the top-left → search "SpendLens" → choose a size (small, medium, large, or lock screen) → Add Widget. The small widget is free; medium, large, lock screen, and accessory widgets require SpendLens Pro. Widgets refresh automatically and tap-through to the right screen in the app.
Does SpendLens work offline?
Yes. All core features work without an internet connection — log expenses, view trends, set budgets, scan receipts. The only feature that requires connectivity is currency exchange rate updates, which refresh every 4 hours. If you're offline, SpendLens uses the last cached rates.
How do I track expenses in different currencies?
When adding an expense, tap the currency code next to the amount and choose from 55 supported currencies. SpendLens converts to your base currency automatically using rates from frankfurter.app (sourced from the European Central Bank). The original amount and currency are always preserved alongside the converted total.
Can I use Siri to log expenses?
Yes. Try "Hey Siri, log 45 dirhams for coffee in SpendLens" or "Hey Siri, what's my spending today in SpendLens". You can also bind these as Action Button shortcuts on iPhone 15 Pro and later. The full list of supported phrases lives in iOS Settings → Siri & Search → SpendLens.
What is the Inbox tab for?
The Inbox (introduced in v1.1) is where transactions captured via SMS Auto-Capture or Share Sheet wait for your one-tap approval. Set up the iOS Shortcut once, and from then on every bank transaction SMS is parsed automatically by your iPhone (using Apple's on-device Foundation Models AI) and lined up for review. Tap the green check to log it. No bank login required, ever.
SMS Auto-Capture isn't working — what do I do?
Settings → SMS Capture → Run Health Check. The check will tell you whether the iOS Shortcut is firing and parsing correctly. Most issues come from the bank sender name being slightly different than what you set in the automation — open the Shortcuts app, edit your Personal Automation, and check that the sender field matches the SMS sender exactly.
Does SpendLens support Arabic?
Numbers, currencies, and amounts work fine with Arabic input today. Full Arabic-first interface localization with RTL layout is on the roadmap for v1.3. If you'd like to help test the Arabic build when it's ready, drop us a line.
Is SpendLens available on Android?
No. SpendLens is iOS-only by design — it's built deeply on iOS-specific frameworks (Vision, Core Data, CloudKit, App Intents, WidgetKit, Foundation Models, Live Activities) that don't have Android equivalents. We have no plans to port the app.
